Located in the heart of the Marennes-Oleron bay, on the great "East Atlantic" migration route, the Moëze-Oleron National Nature Reserve, managed by the LPO, is a privileged stopover for birds. After having travelled thousands of kilometres, they find in the wet meadows, the former salt marshes, the lagoons and mudflats of the reserve, abundant food and a protected refuge.

This nature reserve has two faces: maritime (6200 hectares) with 13 km of shoreline on the eastern side of Oléronaise and continental (320 hectares).

The trails in the nature reserve are open all year round (times and conditions of access must be respected), independently of the opening times of the Moëze-Oléron nature reserve reception area.
