Interpretation of Architecture and Heritage Centre

The ground floor of the Museum of Hebre hosts the Architecture and Heritage Interpretation Center (AHIC) to share and discover the city of Rochefort.

In the heart of the Interpretation Center, you can see the model scale produced by Pierre-Marie Touboulic in 1835, which constitutes a genuine centerpiece of the museums' collections. The relief-plan is becoming the pivotal point of a speech regarding the urban evolution of Rochefort from its foundation in 1966 to the present day.

The exhibitions'area is divided into two galleries with distinct atmospheres :

In the first one, there is a model scale in a case, presented like a treasure and accompanied by masterpieces from the museum's collections. The sophisticated staging shows the sumptuousness of the presented documents and engages you to discover, to feel emotion, to contemplate and finely observe the artwork.

Thanks to the interpretation of the offered tools, the second one brings to light the key moments of urban and social History from the 19th Century to nowadays and invite you to discover a city that has retrieve the heritage of its project in the future.

Thus, the AHIC has been reinforcing the image of the city and is a major crossing point for tourists. The Center is called out to become a real indicator to discover the city while opening up perspectives towards the site of the former Dockyard, its heritages and landscapes but also towards the Carente (Valley and estuary), especially within the scope of the Grand Site Label.
