    Work began in 1810 and was completed two years later. Listed as a Historic Monument since 1994, the fort is only accessible on foot and at low tide. To reach it, visitors take a 1.6 km-long passage between Fouras-les-Bains and the Île d'Aix.

    Access to the fort is only possible on paid guided tours, organised from March to October according to the tides, and booked in advance with the Rochefort Océan Tourist Office.
