    Azad Ziya Eren was born on 27 October 1976 in Diyarbakır (Northern Kurdistan). A prolific author, he has published nearly 30 works, including collections of poetry, novels, essays and reviews. His works have been translated into 14 languages, including English, French, German, Spanish and Portuguese.
    In 2009, he won the Metin Altıok Poetry Prize with his works Ars Requiem and Le Couloir de l'abandon. In 2016, he was awarded an arts grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation(USA) and was invited in residence for a year at Harvard University.

    Azad Ziya Eren has taken part in numerous international festivals and poetry and literary translation workshops in several countries, where his translations have also been published. He was invited twice, in 2017 and 2018, to the prestigious French literary festival ‘Étonnants Voyageurs’ in Saint-Malo. That same year, he was awarded the Prix Littéraire France-Turquie for his first novel Zagros, fils de Chronos, published in Paris.

    As a visual artist, he has organised several solo exhibitions of painting and photography, notably in Istanbul, Paris, Diyarbakır, Ankara and La Rochelle.

    En 2022, il a bénéficié d’une bourse de création attribuée par le ministère français de la Culture et le Centre National du Livre (CNL) pour son projet de roman intitulé Joseph Proulx, Voyageur de la Solitude. De mai à septembre 2022, il a présenté une exposition d'illustrations liées à ce projet à la Maison des Écritures de La Rochelle.
    En 2023, il a publié un recueil de poésie intitulé « Les Ruines » et a été invité au Festival International de Poésie de Trois-Rivières, au Québec(Canada). En 2024, son roman Joseph Proulx, Le voyageur de la Solitude (éd. Gordion) a été publié dans sa langue originale.

    Ses illustrations font partie de nombreuses collections personnelles et institutionnelles.
    Depuis 2023, Azad Ziya Eren travaille sur un projet d’exposition intitulé “Il y a de l’encre sous toutes les solitudes/Les chiens préhistoriques aboyaient”, qui se concentre sur le Massacre de Dersim. Ce projet est une réponse à Guernica de Pablo Picasso et à l’année 1937. Certaines œuvres de cette exposition ont été présentées pour la première fois dans le cadre de l’exposition La Constellation de la Solitude.

    Depuis 2017, il vit à La Rochelle avec son épouse et leurs deux enfants.
