Last season, the Musiques au pays de Pierre Loti festival took us on a fascinating musical and literary journey through the Americas, inspired by the writer from La Rochefort. This time the journey continues in the Mediterranean.

At the same time, this concert will celebrate the 150th birthday of one of France's greatest composers, Maurice Ravel, who was also passionate about Mediterranean culture. His music will take us on a journey to Greece (5 popular Greek melodies), Israel (Kaddish), Italy and Spain (5 popular songs). His repertoire will be enhanced by an exceptional duo, formed by the Catalan pianist and singer Anna Cardona Esteva and the baritone Victor Sicard. Laurent Stocker of the Comédie-Française will punctuate their recital with a reading of texts by Loti to accompany the melodies sung.

The evening will continue with a sublime cycle of songs dedicated to the famous Spanish hero portrayed by Cervantes, making up the soundtrack to Pabst's film Don Quixote, written by the French musician Jacques Ibert. Then there are the Siete canciones populares españolas by Spanish composer Manuel de Falla, a fervent admirer of Maurice Ravel. As a final bouquet, the duo will delight us with musical gems by Catalan composer Xavier Montsalvatge. A suspended moment.
