Show: to life, to the sea

Cultural ,  Theatre in Rochefort
  • Rebecca's childhood was spent in a cove, far from the town, in the middle of a hamlet inhabited only by women. Wedged between the cliffs and the sea, her daily life was once filled with gulls and seals, and above all the many legends reflected in her mother's eyes. Among her neighbours, the old woman who wove stories and Miranda, a luminous stranger, made a particularly strong impression on her. Today, before us, she summons her ghosts.

Rebecca's childhood was spent in a cove, far from the town, in the middle of a hamlet inhabited only by women.

Julie Rossignol, a young director from La Rochelle, gives us a one-woman show between fiction and reality, with the makings of a fable. A specialist in object theatre, she has created an original visual universe in which each element is charged with meaning and represents a character or a place. A chair, a Comtoise clock, rubber boots... all come to life as the story unfolds, guiding us as they evolve.

Walter Bilirit's dramatic writing is inspired by the legends of the Selkies, mainly from Shetland folklore. These metamorphosing sea creatures are similar to seals who, at certain times of the year, shed their skins to take on human form. The two artists revisit this tale in the light of the issues of our time, such as the emancipation of women and the link between man and nature. A beautiful legend, carried by the sound of the waves and the ocean breeze.
