For this evening of Central European melodies, he will guide the NACO musicians through a whirlwind of emotions, between triumph and fervour.
In Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2, bravura passages alternate with lyrical flights of fancy: from the painful opening to nervous themes in which the violin explores gripping melodies. Composed in 1935, in parallel with the ballet Romeo and Juliet, this work reflects the composer's itinerancy between Paris, Voronezh and Baku, until its premiere in Madrid. On violin, we will discover Alexandra Soumm, one of the most promising artists of her generation.
A perfect example of Dvorak's melodic talent, the Czech Suite is distinguished by the fluidity and contrast of its five movements, inspired by popular dances such as the polka and sousedska. A succession of different rhythms and characters, all linked by a great structural unity, just like Mozart's works.
In 1786, Mozart composed Symphony No. 38, ‘Prague’. Its introduction has a mood of calm assurance, while the suite oscillates between tragic and victorious. One of the composer's most popular symphonies, it bears the mark of the Austrian genius' great maturity in orchestral writing.
